MTV first aired on August 1, 1981 and premiered its first music video ever, "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles. In the early days, MTV consisted of basic videos. Later money was invested in making creative, cutting-edge videos. MTV went on to revolutionize the industry and become an influential source of pop culture and entertainment. MTV was the foundation for countless artists of all genres to start their musical careers. The MTV Music Video Awards launched in 1984. By late 1980's MTV started airing non-video programs. In 1992 "The Real World" and "The Osborne's" were launched. Also the MTV Movie Awards began the same year.
